Episode III: Wineries, Wineries & More Wineries
Yep, the reason for the trip!
We managed to squeeze 30 wineries into our trip - can you believe it? We were blown away by the quality of the wine in the Barossa. We'd always read & heard that the Barossa Valley was the premium Aussie wine region, and I think we agree now. Apart from one or two average wineries, the wine was amazing!
We stayed the next two nights in a little cottage in Lyndoch ~ with an awesome four-person spa ... so big enough for Matthew to fit comfortably! When we got home, both Matthew & I said we thought that the place was old & haunted ~ so not sure we'll be staying there again! Although I loved the spa, I was glad to leave there ~ I didn't feel comfortable there at all, and I barely slept a wink either night!
We were reasonably well behaved LOL ... and only brought home about 20 bottles of wine ~ but have definitely noted down a few favourites to buy when we recover from our trip!
We did actually see a few other things besides the wineries - the Lyndoch Lavender Farm (I could have smelled that all day), the Whispering Wall ~ which is incredible! It's a dam wall, made by hand ~ which is amazing in itself. But the most amazing thing is that you can whisper to each other from either end of the wall & hear perfectly. 140m away!
Our last night in SA was spent again with the gorgeous Nessie & Mr Nessie! Yummy home made roast chook ~ soooo good to eat home cooked food after a week away!). The boys went out to play poker for the night ~ which Matthew loved ~ and us girls hired a DVD, ate icecreams & snuggled with the furbabies!
The next morning, it was time to say goodbye to SA (which we were very sad to do), as well as goodbye to Ness & Mr Ness (which we were even sadder to do) & start the drive home. Luckily it was a lot cooler, so having the heating on didn't bother us as much. We stopped off at a couple of wineries on the way home ~ of course~ and got really lucky at Bests in the Grampians. The cellar door manager spied my camera bag, and it turned out he was a photographer. He let us down into the 180 (or something) year old cellars to take some photos. Wow ~ it was FREEZING down there. But incredible!
I've included some random snaps from our holiday ... now it's time to start scrapping them!

Looks like a fantastic holiday.
Can I recommend saving your pennys for trip to the Malborough region in NZ, fabulous wine especially their sauv blancs. Didn't get to visit but drank many a Hawkes Bay red which got our seal of approval.
