Our trip to the Barossa Valley!

Phew! What an awesome week! Where to start? At the beginning, I guess LOL.

SO. The overheating car. In typical Matthew & Jody style, nothing runs smoothly. We are about 2 hours into the drive there, when we hear the always ominous beep beep beep beep beep. We look at each other - "Huh?". One minute later ... beep beep beep beep beep. Grr. Matthew notices that the temperature gauge is right up to H. Great! Meanwhile we are in the middle of nowhere, the car is beeping 5 times every minute [which is driving us BOTH insane] ... eventually we make it to the next town, we stop, Matthew does the "dance of the steaming radiator cap with flourescent vest from the boot" to check the coolant levels [which, after the dance was over, he noticed he could check through the clear reservoir ... but that's best left unsaid.] Everything seems fine, levels are fine, nothing is loose.

On we plod, the car still overheating. Matthew discovers that the only way to keep the engine temperature at a normal level is to have the heating on full heat, full fan ... for the ENTIRE trip. So we are being blasted by the heater, and at the same time, have all of the windows down & the sunroof open - which meant we were both disgustingly hot & completely wind-whipped by the time we reached my good friend Nessie's (and Mr Nessie) house on Saturday afternoon. I'm sure she would have preferred houseguests for the night that looked vaguely human instead of bedraggled homeless people, but we couldn't help it!

As an indicator of how hot it got in the car ... we had a packet of Starburst lollies in the centre console. Note the past tense. We ended up with a packet of lolly. Singular. The whole 500g packet melted into one giant Starburst.

So that was the start to our holiday - not ideal ... but better than falling down stairs & ending up in plaster, so hey - we're one up on last year!

Stay tuned for Episode II ... the mini golf challenge!
