Three Bells - Week 6
I can't believe our little sweetpea is six weeks old already!
She is just an absolute delight. She is such a happy, content, smiley little girl. Most of the time, anyway! She greets us with beautiful smiles when she wakes up from her sleeps, adores having a bath & loves being on the change table. She's finding her voice, and is starting to "talk" to us a lot more now. All manner of grunts, squeaks, squeals & whatnot emanate from her at all hours of the day & night ~ regardless of whether she is awake or not. Some of them very unladylike indeed!
We have started reading to her, and she just loves it. Our current reading material is "Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes" by Mem Fox. She just gazes up at me & smiles while I'm reading it to her, and loves it when I wiggle her fingers & toes at the same time. Matthew has also started playing "This Little Piggy" with her, and she's very fond of that as well.
She's getting much better at self-settling for her sleeps, which is wonderful! I have been persisting in putting her down in her bassinette a little bit awake, and letting her settle herself to sleep. She's now gone from screaming blue murder from being left on her own to happily gurgling & grunting to herself while she drops off to sleep. Of course, there is still the odd sleep where she won't settle ~ and that just means cuddle time for Mummy or Daddy. It's a tough life. ;) Hopefully this will continue, and I will be able to get into even more of a routine during the day.
At the moment, I'm still only managing to eat a proper breakfast each day, and then grazing until Matthew gets home & we have dinner. I really need to incorporate eating a proper lunch every day into my routine. I do a load of nappies each day, and a load of her washing every other day, so her room & laundry is kept up to date. Given how much of a little koala she has been for most of the past six weeks, I'm happy with what I've been able to achieve, and I'm trying not to put too many expectations on myself. But this week I'm aiming to improve a little on my daily routine ~ eat lunch (even if it's just a sandwich!) & maybe even try to do a little ironing each day. Baby steps!
We had our six week check up with the GP today, and all was well. I'm so proud of how well everything is going. Breastfeeding has been very successful so far, she is thriving, sleeping well (most of the time), happy & content. We couldn't ask for more. While we certainly have our moments, she is everything we could have hoped for. We are indeed, finally, very blessed.
Mum & Grant arrived in Melbourne today, and are here till Tuesday. Charlotte has, naturally, charmed them both with her beautiful smile!
Matthew & I celebrated five years of marriage on the 18th of September. It seems like so long ago that we were standing in the chapel at Mt Tamborine! We went out for dinner at Ambrosias (the little restaurant in our estate) while Julie (Leon, the wine shop owner's partner) looked after Miss Charlotte. It was very strange to leave her, but wonderful to have some time on our own. Although the 80 minutes was most definitely long enough! All of the books say that it's important to have couple time, so couple time we shall have. =) We even managed to talk about something other than Charlotte ... sometimes, anyway.

She is just adorable Jody :) sounds like you are getting into a nice routine with her too (mind you ~ the washing is never done!)
Your methods of sleep time with Charlotte seem very similar to what I did & 2.5 years later I have a little one that 99% of the time will go in her cot wide awake and I don't (generally) hear a peep out of her - Well done!!!
PS didn't realise you got married at Mt Tamborine, my family are all from around canungra / Beaudesert area :)
Everything is going so wonderfully for you Jody - I am very pleased.
Now, will you agree to be my mummy guru please? : )
